Agatha Christie

September 15
"There is no agony like it.  You sit in a room, biting pencils, looking at a typewriter, walking about, or casting yourself down on a sofa, feeling you want to cry your head off."
                                                        --Agatha Christie, on "getting started"

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller (September 15, 1890 - January 12, 1976)
Born in Torquay, Devon, England
Died in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England of "natural causes" at age 85.

Agatha's room is my hand's-down favorite at the Sylvia Beach Hotel, and the place I treated myself to for a long weekend when I turned 50.  Were you forced to isolate yourself somewhere to bite pencils and weep, this room would provide you with a lovely sofa (for casting purposes), a fireplace for cool nights, a divine bed, and a wrap-around balcony for warm and sunny days.

My Guest Journal Entry:  Dearest Agatha, I arrive, alas, one day after your actual birthday, so our celebration is a bit belated, but heartfelt nonetheless.  When one travels as we do, it is often so difficult to arrange schedules and accommodations particularly when fellow wayfarers must also be taken into account.  Hence, my tardy arrival...But I hope you do appreciate the small English bone china dish I've left by your bedside.  So tedious to keep spotting lovely items only to turn them over and see "Made in China".  Really, I knew that would never pass muster in your lovely room.  So I wish you many more peaceful celebrations by the fire, with the sounds of the surf and gulls and a winsome tome.  As a fellow Virgo, I join you in celebrating the Birthday Month !  Kind regards, Kelly Paige.
